Everything You Need to Know

From selecting the right sum insured to making a claim — a complete guide to your Householder Policy.

The Householder Policy is a package policy specially designed to meet the insurance requirements of a householder by combining under a single policy a number of standard policies usually taken by householders.

A discount in premium is offered depending upon the number of sections opted for by the proposer. It is compulsory to opt for Section IB (building contents under Fire & Allied Perils). A minimum of three sections including Section IB must be taken for issuance of this policy.

For household items, group them into broad categories (furniture, clothing, linen, utensils, crockery, etc.) and assign a value equivalent to the current market value.

  • Sections IA & B, II, III, IV, VI, VII & VIII — insure on market value basis.
  • Section V (Domestic Appliances) — insure on current replacement value of a similar new item.
  • Section IX (Personal Accident) — sum insured must not exceed 72 months’ salary from gainful employment.
  1. Take necessary steps to minimise the loss or damage immediately.
  2. In case of fire, inform the fire brigade immediately.
  3. In case of theft or burglary, inform the police immediately with a list of items stolen and their approximate value.
  4. Notify Prestige Assurance by phone or in writing as soon as possible.
  5. Cooperate fully with the appointed surveyor and submit the claim form with all supporting documents.
  6. If rights of recovery exist against a third party, those rights must be subrogated to Prestige Assurance upon settlement.

Policy details given are indicative and not exhaustive. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply to all sections.

Please contact your nearest Prestige Assurance office for full policy wording, specific exclusions, and premium quotations tailored to your requirements.

Section IB is compulsory. A minimum of three sections must be selected for the policy to be issued.
