Mrs Girija Subramanian is the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of The New India Assurance Company Limited, with over 37 years of experience in the insurance industry. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics from the University of Mumbai, is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India, and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London..

 Mrs Subramanian commenced her career in 1988 as a Direct Recruit Officer with GIC Re and, over a distinguished career spanning 34 years, successfully handled multiple verticals within the organisation. She has extensive expertise in reinsurance and has long been an integral contributor to the development of reinsurance solutions within the industry.

In September 2022, Mrs Subramanian was selected as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited. Following a selection process conducted by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, she assumed office as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of The New India Assurance Company Limited on 19 June 2024.

Mrs Subramanian serves on the boards of several institutions, including the National Insurance Academy, Pune; India International Insurance, Singapore; Prestige Assurance Plc, Nigeria; the Institute of Insurance and Risk Management, Hyderabad; GIC Housing Finance; Health Insurance TPA; and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry. She also serves as Co-Chair of the Insurance Section of ASSOCHAM. She is a Non-Executive Director of Prestige Assurance Plc..
